Mark Barron on Lowe’s SEC’s best Mark Barron is the first Alabama player to make Chris Lowe’s SEC’s best list, falling at number 16. Lowe cites Barron’s stellar 2009 numbers in tackles and interceptions, as well as his upcoming job of leading an inexperienced secondary. It will be interesting to see where the rest of the Alabama players come in. I expect Alabama will dominate the list, especially with the departure of so many Florida stars. I expect to see at least Marcel Dareus, Trent Richardson, Mark Ingram and Julio Jones on the list in the coming weeks. Read more →
Conflicting reports on conference expansion ESPN’s Joe Schad is reporting that a Big 12 South exodus is imminent, with Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State and Oklahoma heading west, while Texas A&M’s Board of Regents has the votes to send the Aggies to the SEC. Dan Beebe’s last ditch pitch failed to sway the member schools and has “zero” percent chance to succeed. However, Chip Brown of Orangebloods.com, who has broken many of the stories during this period, is reporting the the Longhorns will stay with the 10-team Big 12. He’s been out in front of everything, so it will be interesting to see who has called this one. Read more →

June 10: Colorado starts the expansion ball rolling For months college football fans have been waiting breathless for Jim Delany to select the next lucky member of the Big-10. But while Delany took his time, the Pac-10 made the first big move pulling Colorado away from the Big-12. Colorado seemed to jump at the invitation, especially as politicians in Texas were pushing for the Baylor Bears to be included in the exodus, along with Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas, Texas A&M and Texas Tech.
